Day 107 - once was a princess

2009.11.30
Bottom of my tophy, sorry, I had to edit my last name out.

Oh so glittery!

Four years ago in 2005, I took a trip to the motherlands for a long vacation.. 4 months to be exact. During that time, they kept talking about this big fiesta called Bac-Bacarra Festival that occurs each year in the month of November, it's a week long event (Nov 23 - Dec 1) .. and I, obviously I was in vacay mode when this was starting.

Here's a short story:
Miss Bacarra is a popularity contest, people in and from your barangay give any amount of money, and whoever has the highest amount when they are all counted up for will be announced as the Queen. Many years ago, two of my auntie's were Queens, as a barangay they figure I should carry this on. At first I was hesitant to join such thing, yet felt sorry since all my cousins were guys and the majority of them at our barangay were also guys, it was pretty difficult to find a female to participate.

Of course, I was about $200 or so short of becoming a Queen, since the Queen's grandma came from Hawaii that afternoon and gave a huge amount to put her over the top. I didn't mind, Plus, what joy would it have been if I was the Queen, being crowned by my hometown mayor of Honolulu, Mufi Hannemann himself!

In the end, I was in this for the experience.. one I wouldn't forget.
